Mortal Kombat (2021)

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie. Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) and Cole Young (Lewis Tan) have to travel to Gary, Indiana to set free Kano (Josh Lawson) so they can uncover their true potential.

In the works for a few decades (including once as a direct sequel to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation), this reboot of the Mortal Kombat Cinematic Universe is a prequel to the titular tournament. Compared to the 1990s duology, this is a dull serious affair.

Aside from an inspired prologue set in ancient Japan, much of the fighting happens in dark rooms and caves. There's no scope or camp at play here. If we get a sequel to this take on Mortal Kombat, it better be a lot more fun.
